I've been a laundry washing fool. Yes, you got that right, my machine has arrived and after a two day wait for the connection to happen, we have water! What a glorious moment. Today I've been catching up on laundry...as the clothes would dry on the rack I would hang new ones. I'm almost to the bottom of my laundry bin (the one I thought was too big when I first got it has been over flowing).
Tomorrow is a friend's birthday and I wanted to host a little party for her at my house. She said she would love to have some American food (wouldn't we all), so we settled on fried chicken, mashed potatoes with milk gravy, green beans, corn, biscuits, honey butter, sweet iced tea and for dessert, her favorite cake...Chocolate with peanut butter frosting. I'm praying that the power stays on while I'm baking the cake and biscuits, it'll be an early morning as I need to get this done. She has been such a blessing to me here, I just want to give a little of that back on this day. I've always found birthdays away from my family to be hard, probably because my mom always makes such a big deal out of them and when that doesn't happen, well, it just makes me miss "home" even more.
Today I went shopping with a new friend (ha, I feel like a little kid talking about the new girl I met at school). She's from here, but lived the past 10 years in Delhi, only returning to this area in December. She is still single and it's nice to have that similar connection. We took a rickshaw to the mall (so I could get a card for my friend's birthday) and then to another store so I could pick up a few household items (needed a larger frying pan for all that chicken and a mat to put on the floor, so we can eat in proper Indian style). Then she and I went to lunch. It was just nice to hear more about her family and she asked some things about my culture too. Somethings sound so foreign to them, probably pretty much like when I first started understanding some of the ways things happen here. I though her eyes were going to pop out of her head when I mentioned we don't, in general, have arranged marriages - she couldn't believe people had to find their own spouse. :) I smiled.

Why that struck me as incredibly hilarious is beyond me! but I did! Probably at the thought of my parents having to find a husband for me at a younger age!! ha ha ha.. now that would have been a trick! :0 and the poor guy that would have been stuck with me!! ha ha.... glad i had my years to mellow me before I foudn my Sam (though I never would have said that 5 or even ten years ago!!!)
