More Angles of Latvia

I found this video today and thought it was a pretty good representation of this beautiful country I'm in.

And while I'm at it, here are some pictures from the trip to the beach (and the center of Europe - as marked by the rock and plaque).

This sign used to be in the parking lot (it's now gone, but I found a copy of it).

The sign pointing to the beach

An arial view of the tip of land where I stood

Monument in memory of sailors who've lost their lives

The entrance to the sea

Some tanker out in the Baltic

Lydia and I being blown around

Where the Baltic Sea and Riga Bay Meet

Looking out onto the Baltic Sea

The center of Europe

An old Russian Orthodox church and an other unknown church, possibly Lutheran

This stone crocodile was given to the city of Dundaga by the Latvian Consulate in Chicago. The statue honors Arvids von Blumenfelds, a local who fled to Australia during WWII and spent his days hunting crocodiles in the Outback. The film “Crocodile Dundee” is said to be based on the exploits of this all-Latvian hero.

This building was used during WW II to gather people being sent to Siberia by the Communist government of the former Soviet Union

Some random shots on the road

Great pics Mo. Seeing that building where people were gathered to be sent to Siberia really chills the soul and generates great compassion on a people repeatedly oppressed.

What a vastly different landscape and climate from what you've been experiencing, Mo! I hope it's a refreshing change. :-)
