My Morning Study

I’m reading through Luke and got stuck on 16:9. “Got stuck on” isn’t really an appropriate description, but it is stuck in my head. I encourage you to read the entire parable for yourself, vs 1-15.

The Message translation:

8-9"Now here's a surprise: The master praised the crooked manager! And why? Because he knew how to look after himself. Streetwise people are smarter in this regard than law-abiding citizens. They are on constant alert, looking for angles, surviving by their wits. I want you to be smart in the same way—but for what is right—using every adversity to stimulate you to creative survival, to concentrate your attention on the bare essentials, so you'll live, really live, and not complacently just get by on good behavior."

This takes on a very different context as one walks across a dirt covered paved road with heaps of trash in an empty lot, a vegetable cart that I need to walk around, a few more feet I walk to the spot where two roads meet and I wait for a cart pulled by two water buffalo slowly makes it's way across and I eventually get to the cart with bananas on it, paying the equivalent of $.30 for a dozen bananas. I will continue to grapple with this as I sense what God is speaking to me. Pray for me as I try to be obedient.
