First Chapatti

Tonight was my big (cultural) event for the night. I've asked my neighbor (her father is my landlord and the family lives below me) to teach me how to make chapattis, the key part of most Indian meals. Not only is it the bread, but it serves as your fork too, you tear off a piece of it, grab some food with it and shovel it into your mouth. I'm not so good at it, but practice makes perfect. Here's a great video I wish I'd seen before, but am still thankful for - Iffat couldn't give me any measurements, she just goes more by how it feels - I'm more of a measurement person and this does it very nicely. Though, I might add, we didn't use oil as in the video and there was a different, and we had a convex shaped pan. Because I have nice, American height countertops, it was difficult for Iffat to knead the dough, so she did it on the floor. :) I for one, love my counters. The chapattis came out nice. I think I will make quesadillas with them tomorrow. :)
