It’s Finally Started

Today I made the first substantial purchase for my new place, an inverter and battery (this way when power goes out and it will at least twice a day, I will still have some power for lights, fan, other small items). It’s not often that I purchase something and know so little about it that I can’t even ask intelligent questions, but this was the case today. Everyone has opinions about what I should get, but very few have been able to tell me why one is better than the other. Dan told me to have one of the locals help me and someone else asks why Dan is not helping. I try to smile and nod my head through it; I don’t know that what I say will make much sense anyway. In the end, I went with my landlord’s recommendation. His wife, daughter and son all went with me to the shop that they buy everything from and now it’s a done deal.

Before heading home we stopped at a Vishal “Mega-Mart”, this is the place that is the closest equivalent to Wal-Mart that you will get in our city. The girls are all going to the market tomorrow, but we figured we’d look at some items here to see how they compared. I got a fun set of dishes and teacups as well as a few other essentials. The other items, stove, pots and pans, these will all come from the market. Whew, it’s going to be a busy day. I don’t even remember the last time I needed to fully furnish a place. And to be honest, I’m getting off easy as they are giving me a double and single bed. My life has been one of hand-me-downs and I’ve loved it. Many things had come from my mom, some from members of CRCC, but they were all special in their own way. Now, they are special to someone else. ☺

There is a huge storm brewing outside. Some rain fell and I’ve heard some loud thunderclaps, now I can hear the wind blowing and birds squawking. Not sure if it’s nearly over or just beginning. I’m at Dan and Darla’s house, as they are out of town and I’ve been stopping by to check on things. I went up to the terrace, before the rain started, to get a better view of the area. As I was coming back down, a bird was inside (but it’s not really inside) the stair well. I know Darla says they’ve come in there because they leave their mark on her clothes that she leaves there to dry on a rack. Then I came into the kitchen to heat some water and make some tea (I just found some herbal teas at one of the nicer shops – good time to enjoy a cup). Out leaps a little lizard. Ha! I like the lizards; they eat the mosquitoes and other bugs. Then as I turned on the water a spider scurried away. This is what happens when your house sits quiet too long.

The rain is falling harder, but the skies are looking better, I think I’m on the end of the storm. Time to go to the cyber café, post this and check my emails.

Keep writing, Mo, I love to read your stories and know a bit more about your life. I can't wait until I'm there to visit, but in the meantime, your blog is a good compromise. Love!
